Looking to work a 4 day week, with 4 full weekends off?

A long established independent RCVS accredited small animal practice with two branches based in Essex and Ipswich are looking for a permanent veterinary surgeon to join their friendly and supportive team of 11 vets, some being certificate holders plus an excellent team of RVNs. They are more than happy to consider New Graduates that have had exposure in practice through to experienced candidates and are keen to support, develop their staff both clinically and professionally. They are a modernised practice that has established excellent customer service and pet care. This practice needs a team player who wants to progress their career.

Key Details:

  • Hours: Full Time, but based on a 4 day week 
  • Monday to Friday: 8.15am – 7.00pm, if working on a Friday you finish at 6.00 - based on a 4 day working week
  • Weekends: Based on a 6 week rota -  4 weekends off - Then 1 Saturday 8.30am - 1.00pm and on call through to Sunday morning and the other weekend would be Sunday on call through to Monday morning.
  • OOH: As above and 1 night per week over 5 weeks with no on call on the 6th week - There is all full back up from the veterinary Directors 
  • Computer System: Ventana
  • Branch work: 2 branch practice, but mainly working at the main practice 
  • Sole charge: None, only when on call - Also have a live in nurse all year round 
  • Team: 11 vet experienced nurse and support team 
  • Consult times: 10 minute appointments, but very flexible on this
  • Other: Vehicle available to use if required and accommodation assistance

They also have vets that cover some exotic / birds and have a number of certificate holders. 


The ideal candidate will have will have good all-round veterinary skills, be fully competent in routine surgery and consultations at 1st opinion practice level. The successful candidate will be a team player with excellent communication skills with a down to earth attitude.


  • Digital X-Ray - Radiography (producing X-rays) facilities are available at both branches
  • Ultrasound - The Ultrasound machine is a valuable tool - for internal diagnosis and examinations of both small and large animals...
  • Laboratory – They have facilities in-house to perform Haematological and Biochemical analysis of blood samples to aid us in the diagnosis of pet's and illness...
  • Other Facilities – They have many other facilities to provide the best service possible with electrocardiography (ECG), dentistry and endoscopy etc.
  • Therapeutic Laser Treatment – They have a start of the art Class IV Therapeutic Laser that can painlessly help reduce inflammation and speed recovery
  • Cat and dog wards - Air-conditioned operating theatres

Beautiful rural location near Ipswich with good links to Norwich, Cambridge and it’s only an hours commute to London

Must haves:

  • RCVS registered and qualified
