We are currently recruiting a permanent equine veterinary surgeon to join a mixed animal practice in Barnsley. This is an independent small animal and equine practice with a large veterinary team. They are looking for a motivated equine surgeon who also has some small animal practice experience as they would be expected to do some small animal as part of the role. Previous experience would include lameness investigations, dentistry, diagnostics and surgery.
Hours Mon – Fri: Shifts between 8:00am & 7:00pm on a rota basis
Weekend rota: 1 in 4 Full weekends and 1 Sunday morning in 6
OOH: 1: 4 night on call per week
Lieu time: Long weekend off after working on call weekend
Sole Charge: Small amount during weekends and at branch practice, always with support
Branch work: Some involved at nearby practice for a few hours a day
Split: 70% Equine 30% Small Animal
Computer System: Robovet
Team: Large team of experienced vets & nurses with support network
Other: Accommodation or accommodation allowance available. Car supplied.
This group of practices in South Yorkshire have been providing excellent standards of care to the area for over 80 years. They have a large experienced team, who know the industry in and out as well as professionals starting out in their career. This practice has lovely modern facilities, with up to date x-ray and endoscopy equipment as well state of the art consulting rooms. They offer equine services and facilities from dental hygiene to emergency treatment, surgery, lameness evaluations and stud work. Small animal clinic offers all facilities and services as one would expect in a modern first opinion practice.
Equine and small animal Facilities:
The practice offers both ambulatory and in clinic based equine services. Facilities and equipment include DR, CR X Ray, ultrasound scanner, endoscopes, dental equipment, ECG, Laser surgery, internal medicine, lameness investigations and elective surgery. The small animal clinic is fully equipped with radiography, ultrasound, endoscopy, full surgical facilities and an in house Lab.
They are looking for a proactive, confident veterinary surgeon who is capable of all routine surgical procedures in small animal but looking to do more equine work. The surgeon would need to be motivated, organised with excellent customer facing skills to develop good working relationships with the clients and members of the team. A good back ground of general equine and small animal experience is required.
Competitive salary between £35,000- £50,000
£1000 Annual CPD allowance plus 3 days
5 Weeks annual holiday

Paid professional memberships – RCVS, BVA & VDS
RCVS registered and qualified
Possess the right to work in the United Kingdom
Minimum 2 years post graduate experience
