Start Date: Monday 4th November 2019
End Date: Friday 8th November 2019
Hours Mon- Fri: Generally the day is 8.30am until 7pm
Daily Structure: 8.30-11 consults, 1-2.30pm consults, 5-7 consults. Lunch break 12-1 and break 2.30-5. -8.30-11 consults, finish any ops then break until consults 5-7 + duty. This involves being available for inpatients only. Phones go to vets now at 8pm and they have a duty nurse on site. 8.30-11 consults, finish any ops and then 4-7 consults. 8am inpatients checks and operate. Lunch 12-1. Consults 1-2.30 and 3.30-4.30. Early finish at 5pm.
Generally vets do 2 lunch time shifts per week, 1 early finish and one longer evening consult stint (4-7). The candidate would be placed into the holidaying vets position so wouldn’t be unfairly lumbered with extra hours etc.
Sole charge: None unless on duty. Other vets will be available if any problems.
Consult times: 12.5 minutes. They manage this by having 10 min app times but scheduled 10min catch up periods throughout the block. They all consult off the list as opposed to an individual list. If the appointment is personalised, then that vet will see it. This system allows them to spend longer with clients if needed. They are happy for 20-30min skin, behaviour, dressing change appointments. The nurses are normally quite astute when they book.
Operating system: Teleos
Other: There is generally plenty of time off during the day for lunch etc. They are very pro staff having down time.
Team: 5 full times vets. All have been qualified for 3 years plus. We have only registered nurses and they are plentiful.
Accommodation: They have a relatively simple but comfortable on site flat. A nurse also stays in the building ever night for inpatients. They are also are happy for locums to bring well behaved dogs.
